Free-Food Basics

According to the American Diabetes Association, a free food is any one that has less than 20 calories and 5 grams of carbohydrate per serving. Some can be enjoyed in moderate amounts with no carb-counting required; others can be eaten up to three times per day in the serving listed. (To prevent a rise in blood sugar, avoid eating all three servings of a free food in the same meal.)
